A bold, yet streamlined cardigan is a great project that works up fairly quickly. This cardigan only requires a little bit of sewing at the underarms and to attach the optional pocket linings (videos at https://www.youtube.com/sweaterbabe).
The body is knit from the bottom up to the underarms with knit-in pockets. Both sleeves are then knit in the round from the cuff to the underarms. Then, they are joined together. Yoke decreases are worked up to the neckline, creating the look of 2-stitch raglan seams. A little bit of short rowing is done to nicely shape the rounded collar, which is then finished with a neatly ribbed neckband.
Full sleeves are gathered at the cuffs and allow you to wear this cardigan over many sleeve styles.
Ribbed front bands are then picked up and knit with buttonholes created along the way.
A simple grafting stitch is used to join the top and bottom half of each underarm (I show how I do this at https://youtu.be/hsXl5ZiQV0k). Pocket linings are sewn invisibly to the inside of the fronts (my video of this is at https://youtu.be/gNmz_PBEVx0).
Sample is knit in Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky, which is available in an amazing array of lovely colors.
